Upgrading ram.

Go to solution Solved by LateLesley,

From what I can find, the "S" just denotes So-Dimm. It would be different if it was F or R or U (F and R are registered memory, not compatible, U I'm not sure if it denotes desktop size, not sure. ). SO the S in this case is just denoting the form factor.

Where you have to be careful, is if they have letters in other places. You can get low power and ultra low power dimms, but these are usually denoted as PC3L or PC3U or sometimes DDR3L or DDR3U. These run at different voltages, and may not be compatible with the chipset. So when in doubt, stick to the same type.

From what I can find, you might be compatible with DDR3L, but I wouldn't swear to it. It seems you can put in up to 16GB, in two 8GB sticks, and I think they must be done in pairs. It won't work with just one stick, from what I read.

Its always tricky getting compatible ram. It would be nice if Apple were like motherboard manufacturers, and gave compatibility lists, but hey, Apple! Good Luck.

Hello.

I have a macbook pro late 2011 13 inch model and I want to upgrade its ram.

In this site it said I have to buy a 1333 MHz PC3-10600 DDR3 SDRAM ram and I find a 1333MHZ PC3-10600s DDR3 ram.

Is there a different between that 10600 and 10600s model?

My guess is that the 10600 non "s" is a mistype as 10600s is just for SoDIMM, meaning laptop version, which is the proper denotation for it.

If you're not sure exactly what to get, this is the supported upgrade. Crucial is also a good place to look for compatible memory.

Fine you want the PSU tier list? Have the PSU tier list: https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/1116640-psu-tier-list-40-rev-103/

That model number (M471B5273DH0-CH9) only shows me a 2x4GB kit when searched on Amazon, Ebay, or even google. I believe this is either an edited photo or not really that memory (Swapped stick or something similar). The rest of the specs do check out though: 1333MHz, CAS 9, 1.5v DDR3L memory.
