GPU Locked At 1817Mhz With Adobe AE Running

I'm not sure if this is normal but when i try and do a preview/render on Adobe AE, with a very minial load, why do i get such an insane GPU frequency? The utilisation is low and the profile i'm using is the default one from a fresh DDU and Driver install/uninstall. Is this safe and just some weird bug?

It's probably normal while the software may quarry the GPU.

 

You could use GPU-Z and look at the sensors tab. Near the bottom, there's a listing for "PerfCap Reason" This will tell you the GPU state.

 

vRel = Reliability. Indicating performance is limited by voltage reliability.
VOp = Operating. Indicating performance is limited by max operating voltage(Hardware Limit).
Pwr = Power. Indicating performance is limited by total power limit.
Thrm = Thermal. Indicating performance is limited by temperature limit.
Util = Utilization. Indicating performance is limited by GPU utilization.
Idle = Idle low power states.

Don’t see the frequency being insane. Doesn’t really mean much compared to load.

How is that insane? The jump in clocks is just to prepare for a coming workload, usually if it lasts for a bit of time it will come down

I don't understand how the clocks work, all i see is 1817Mhz on an unstable Vega 64 LC which normally clocks between 1655Mhz - 1782Mhz under 100% load.

it can boost higher when cold and current draw is low

My GTX1070 sits at my OC clocks (2025Mhz Core and Ram is clocked up too) when rendering/encoding, while my GPU usage is variable but low at 5-30% maybe....
Preparation and all that... it wants to do the work as fast as possible, clocks high, even with limited usage, its still as fast as it can be.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz
