M.2 on Asus ROG Crosshair VIII Hero

Quick question guys...

 

I’m installing a m.2 NVMe drive on Asus ROG Crosshair VIII Hero.  Under the cover, there is a pad stuck to the cover plate.  Am I supposed to remove the cover on the pad?  Looks like it would be hard to remove and install if sticky.  It also seems like it’d be a one time use if I did.

 

Anyone have any experience with this?
