Hey Guys, I'm based in the UK and I would really like some help. I built my first pc a few years ago, It went perfectly well, looking to build a new one this year. I was to do some exotic water cooling, but i need help picking some parts. I do not understand all the different types of pumps, and pump res combos. I keep seeing a pump top have no clue what that is either. What would help is a clear kind of guide as to how do I tell what works best for me. I already have everything else from the block, tubes etc. Can anyone explain how I pick a pump or pump res please

There's good tutorials on YouTube.

Just go AIO for your first watercooler. If you really want some blingy setup I recommend you get a kit. Making a custom build is a real pain the ass. But it does look nice.

No, don't get an AIO. I regret it a lot. Even 240mm+ ones aren't worth it compared to air or a custom loop.

https://www.corsair.com/ww/en/custom-cooling-configurator

Corsair fairly recently came out with their own custom liquid cooling line-up, with everything from rads to fittings, pumps, etc. I'd check out this configurator as it should give you an idea of what kit you need and there are plenty of videos online that should guide you through the whole process of setting up your own custom loop.

You must be doing something wrong then, my 280mm nzxt kraken is cooling my cpu a lot better then my big old aircooler

If you were to use the same pump in both configurations there is really no major difference between a pump reservoir combo and a separate pump / reservoir other than aesthetics, assuming you keep the reservoir above the pump in the separate config. It's best practice to keep the pump directly below the reservoir so it has a guaranteed feed of liquid, and to make the initial filling of a loop easier.

Most people go with a D5 or DDC pump, DDC pumps are smaller but typically run louder / hotter, while D5 pumps are larger and typically run cooler / quieter. Additionally DDC pumps have more head pressure than D5 pumps but both are suitable for regular loops (1 cpu, 1-2 gpus, 1-2 rads), the more components there are in a loop the more head pressure is required. There are fixed rate pumps in which you can't adjust pump speed, and variable rate pumps in which speed can be controlled via a physical knob and or via PWM, which lets you control the speed electronically through your motherboard or another device.

A pump top is basically the housing for a bare pump that lets you attach standard fittings / tubing to the pump, they also provide desired aesthetic depending on which one you get.

If you want a pump reservoir combo you either need to get a reservoir with a bare pump mount or one that already comes with a pump, if you want your pump and reservoir separate you get one without a pump mount. Other than that you really just go with whatever reservoir you think looks best and has decent rep / reviews.

I prefer a D5 vario (variable) pump because of noise levels, and I prefer separate pumps / reservoirs so I only have to tinker with one thing at a time if one is to fail.

Noctua NH-D15. It can also depend on the case I use, The AIO rad and fans are able to suck in clean air from the outside, the noctua cooler had to suck air from inside the case. Even with fans in the front it would still be warmer.

That's a really good air cooler. You probably had it set up wrong.
