Hey Tech Peeps.

Before I begin, let me be clear; I live in Cork Ireland, you might think that Currency is Euro. But I use Amazon UK coz here TAX/VAT is 23% on everything here, plus I have Amazon Prime coupled with a UK "Virtual" Address so I don't pay for shipping or any extra costs. So please consider as if I was from UK n use Amazon UK. As for budget it's GBP400 or less. Lower better.

Now, on with the aim of my build. My aim, is a machine for Retro Gaming, I will be using LaunchBox/BigBox as the Front end. I want it to be a Ryzen based Micro-ATX or Mini-iTX build that can handle every emulator platform I throw at it up until the PS3 (XBOX not included). I prefer not to require a dedicated GPU (At first maybe later). I will not be requiring any monitors as it will be connected to my Philips 4K TV. As for peripherals none as I already got the mouse, keyboard and gaming controller. just need the system. I will need a 6TB or more for storing all Games/ROMs for different platforms. Yeah I know it gets huge and I wanna future proof the build too.

I have begun a build but it's over GBP400 which I cannot afford. Prefer something much lower. Anyway, thanks in advance for all your input. Click me for my build so far.

TechXero.

Something like this i suppose.

Save up for more storage, and use the mobo box as a case untill you can afford a case.

Ok, thanks, but you forgot to include a 6TB or bigger drive for ROMs. Still over my budget when you factor it in.... Also aim is retro Gaming, some might think it doesn't require much but I assure you some Platforms require quite some power...

you aint get any better for the budget unless you scratch the used market.

and you need a GPU (dGPU, eGPU  or iGPU) to do anything on a system.

you could also just mini ITX your current build.

What do you mean by mini iTX my build? Ok for now I prefer an iGPU or APU as no budget for a dedicated one. I prefer to use a case. Reason I suggested a mini iTX is I thought I would put it in a suitcase in case I have to travel back home lol. Less shipping costs...

take you current build and mini-ITX it by changing the mobotherboard and case.

you could probmably do a small tower mATX build. tho not that small to fit in a suitcase.

something like a Fractal Design Node 202 would be too much.

Hehe. I can't find many mini-iTX boards. Either too expensive or too old that require a Bios Update with compatible CPU. I was considering 3200G. Hmm... You are great help, slowly getting to what I need. Keep suggestions coming bruh... Thanks again.

Sorry bud but you're not running PS3 on anything miniITX. The build in my sig barely runs anything from the PS3. That will probably improve over time but for now the PS3 emulator is very much a WIP.

For anything up to PS1, Saturn & N64 a Ras Pi 4 will handle the job and run 90% of games at close to full speed.

You are aware the emulating old systems on PC comes with input latency problems, right?

Main Rig:-

Ryzen 7 3800X | Asus ROG Strix X570-F Gaming | 16GB Team Group Dark Pro 3600Mhz | Corsair MP600 1TB PCIe Gen 4 | Sapphire 5700 XT Pulse | Corsair H115i Platinum | WD Black 1TB | WD Green 4TB | EVGA SuperNOVA G3 650W | Asus TUF GT501 | Samsung C27HG70 1440p 144hz HDR FreeSync 2 | Ubuntu 20.04.2 LTS |

Server:-

Intel NUC running Server 2019 + Synology DSM218+ with 2 x 4TB Toshiba NAS Ready HDDs (RAID0)

Finally someone that understands my need. Thanks for input. I understand RCPS3 is WiP right now I meant for future. And I prefer a PC coz upgradable with more storage than being limited by SD card coz I got 4tb off ROMs and loving the level of customization with LaunchBox Frontend. I understand about latency barely noticable by me.

I currently own a Ras Pi 4 and Tinker Board gave up on them due to storage limitations and lack of customization and flexibility.

Btw what are your thoughts on my Retro Builds I linked above?

This (PC Part Picker) or

The Amazon list should be good for PS2 and probably Wii though its hard to say. I suggest you hit YouTube and see if you can find performance videos of various emulators running on that GPU before you buy anything, its always good to have an idea of the performance before you buy.

Theres an issue though, the cooler you listed is Intel only and won't fit an AM4 CPU.

Fixed. Thanks for heads up. As for GPU can you help me find a low profile one that is more recent ? Can't find any. Need one that fits that case.

edit : Replaced with LP GT 1030 nVidia. Should be better now. What you think?
