Frame Rate Problems

Hello, I have been having problems with my games. I was simply playing some Minecraft, noting too stressful, and when i press F3 it says that I am getting 83 FPS but it doesn't feel like that at all. Instead it feels more like 20 fps. The game is hard to play even though I have a GTX 680, and an Intel Xeon 3.3GHz. I even have a high refresh rate monitor. Does anyone know how I might fix this?

Try setting the refresh rate of your monitor lower (to 60Hz, maybe) and see what happens.

I can tell you that I've heard that minecraft will have weird issues with displaying the exact frame rate, my idea is to try a reinstall of minecraft, and that could fix that. Just be sure to back up a copy of your world saves if you have any cool ones you want to keep.

That wont help, minecraft doesn't really install anything. It just copies the .minecraft folder and files to the directory. You can move the minecraft folder anywhere on your computer and launch it with no problem (directly from the jar.) The only difference reinstalling would help is if you have a bunch of mods, that would eliminate if it is a mod. 

 

You could try making a different world and see if it still happens, if it doesn't then it probably is a corrupt chunk.
