Hello all, this is my first time on here but I have a few questions. It has been a while since I have built a system (like 13 years) and funds are limited. I have decided to upgrade my current Dell Inspiron 3668. I have brought the memory up to 12GB and here are my specs:

  • CPU
    Intel Core i5 (7th Gen) 7400 / 3 GHz
  • Max Turbo Speed
    3.5 GHz
  • Number of Cores
    Quad-Core
  • Chipset Type
    Intel H110 Express
  • Processor Main Features
    Intel Turbo Boost Technology 2
  • Graphics is the intel 630
  • HDD 1 TB
  • Memory (upgraded) 12GB
I am thinking about upgrading the Power supply, CPU and getting a GPU and SSD.

Any suggestions of what processor I can safely upgrade to?

I would start with a new GPU and SSD. Don't replace the PSU unless you have to (check power requirements for the GPU, and compare against the included PSU).

As for the CPU, you probably don't need to upgrade it at all, but sure if you want to, I'd leave that to last.
