Will this psu be enough ?

Go to solution Solved by IAmAndre,

You would be fine with a 1650. However, I don't know what the case looks like but upgrading the PSU wouldn't be that expensive and you can get even an RX570 that's cheaper that the 1650 or equally-priced but much more powerful.

Hello,

So I just bought this new pc (Hp elitedesk g2) for 250$ :

Intel I7-6700

8 gb ddr4 ram.

500gb hard drive.

Psu :  hp 280w 758752-001

I want to upgrade it by adding an SSD throwing another 8 gigs of ram, and mostly adding a GPU. Since the case of this pc is kind of thin I found myself limited to low profile graphic cards, I could get a :

Msi GTX1650 4GT LP 4096MB

I was wondering if I do get this gpu will the power supply handle all this upgrades ?  Note that I can't upgrade the psu since it has a wierd shape not like regular desktop psu.

Thanks for the time you took to read this !

You'd have to go with something that doesn't need an additional cable for power, so that 1650 should be fine

Thank you for responding to my post !

The store that im getting this gpu from only has RX570 big size not low profile. The only good gpu they have that wouldnt bottleneck my cpu and can fit properly is the 1650.

Then can you get a 1650 Super instead?

Thank you for the answer, yes indeed it doesn't have an additional cable for power. But since it needs 75w I figured that it migth be powerful for my 280w psu.

You can replace the power supply by using this adapter:

https://www.moddiy.com/products/HP-EliteDesk-800-PSU-Main-Power-24-Pin-to-6-Pin-Adapter-Cable-30cm.html

I think you need a TFX power supply like the Seasonic TFX-350 or the be quiet! TFX Power 2. I'm not sure though.

Nope they dont have the 1650 super low profile either only 1050ti and cheaper gpus. They do have the 1070 lp though but it's kind of expensive.

1070 is still a decent card, is it a standard atx psu?

any plans to upgrade later? sometimes getting a better gpu means later on you don't have to upgrade that with the rest of the components.

No I have no plans of upgrading I just want to add the gtx 1650 low profile gpu ram ssd and not burn the psu or something.

Thanks for the answer,

I dont think the tfx-350 would fit in.

I dont want an extra psu out of the case either :(

Ok. You should be fine adding the 1650 low profile. That one seems to be the most powerful low profile card on the planet right now so that's what you should buy. Unless they magically come out with the low profile 1650 super over night.

You mentioned a gtx 1070 low profile but I'm unable to find it and as far as I know there is no half height 1070. I'd appreciate a link to it or a part number.

I was wrong it's not a low profile it's small but wont fit in either. I corrected my post a few moments ago. Sorry about that
