Hey all,

I have been asked to look into some server based questions. Here is what i'm look for.

Cost of a locally hosted server and maintenance vs Hosted by a another company.

This is going to be for a program that has the following min specs:

8 core Processor

32 Gb RAM

I know its not a lot to go by but that is the information that i have. If i get anymore i will update.

Thanks

Local Hosted vs Cloud Hosted.

I suppose the next question would then be can it benefit from high speed networking?

Yes? Host it yourself. Look into Dell or HPE servers. If anything goes wrong hardware wise they'll fix it.

No? Cloud Hosted is an option. Less to near no downtime is guaranteed provided you keep your network up.

Depending on what you are going to be doing with a server like that, you can find used servers on eBay that will meet those specifications/definition quite inexpensively.

Beyond that, I'll need additional information about how you are planning on using it, etc. and other information that will start defining the scope and will start pushing the hardware definition up from the several-hundred-dollar servers that you can find on eBay, rather inexpensively.

(Course, now you can also run Ryzens with 32 GB of RAM, so it's not difficult to get an 8-core system, running with 32 GB of RAM. I think that there might even be some laptops that can do that nowadays.)
