Ok so i have a Netgear N750 router and it's downstairs and im upstairs using my laptop. When i do a speed test the little line is like a mountain range (jitter). Like it would be going normal then dip down halfway and then back up to the same level and then down again and over and over during the speed test.

Idk maybe it's because im upstairs? The router is literally on top of a 3.5 foot speaker and right next to a big plasma TV in the corner >.<. I'm getting the bandwidth that im supposed to be getting upstairs but its just...idk...my ping goes up and down when i play online games

Wifi usually works better from upstairs with the signal going downstairs. There's a reason you're supposed to place it in the highest place in your h

Theres only 2 coaxial cable inputs in my house...and they're both downstairs. Where ever the modem is, the router is with it :(

Personal testing, about a dozen different sources?

I'd like to see these sources if you don't mind. I've had multiple customers complain about wireless coverage throughout their house when their router was chosen to be placed in the highest point in the house. Sure fixed that when we did cabling and centralised the wireless access point in somewhere logical, like the ground floor in the middle. Also, if you're using omnidirectional antennae then the difference between the two floors is going to exist and remain fairly constant. If you're not using omnidirectional antennae, then it's fairly obvious where the best place is - I hope I don't have to explain that.
