Okay. So to start off, I just want to say that, I am not new to overclocking but it isn't something that I'm very comfortable with so I am seeking some help.

With that said my beloved 4770k is starting to seem slow and not quite taking tasks down like it used to. As is to be expected when your a processor from 2013. I've always ran this processor stock but under water via a H100i.

So now that I'm starting to see noticeable small decreases in performance from it, would I be able to gain any considerable performance?

AND. If so, what's the best way to go about overclocking a CPU of this age? I'd love a guide, video or something to get me back up to speed on overclocking if possible. I want to get the best clock and a stable one at that too.

My whole rig is straight out of 2013. So I know my PC will start to slow after 7 years but I want to squeeze every ounce I can out of what I paid for that I can. You feel?

Your CPU boost at 3.9Ghz.

Set the multiplier to 41 (4.1Ghz) for start, without setting anything else (voltage ect...).

see how it goes, my guess is that it will be fine.

Then increase by 1 at a time the multiplier, 42.. if it is not stable set the voltage by starting from 1.3v (i wouldn't idvise you to set it more than 1.35v)

See how it goes.

Good luck!

Thank you. I'll give this a try and see what I can get out of it!

That CPU could easily go up to about 4Ghz

If I can push the processor up over 4Ghz. Would I find a significant difference in performance? I mostly do single threaded work loads.

I owned the 4790K, you want to stay below 1.3V with that CPU and really i had a golden chip at 1.225V 4.7Ghz stable using XTU for 24 hours.

With that said try 4.4 1.2V then 4.5-4.6-4.7 slowly increasing voltage as needed, with a H100i you probably want to actually stay below 1.25V

Edit also make sure to keep in eye out for your VRM temps

Aweseome! I appreciate the guidance. Hopefully I can at the least semi win the silicone lottery.

Question though, once I get a high clock speed that will boot and run, what is the best program to test that clock speed for stability? I don't know what XTU is. But I don't really know what any of them are anymore lol

The way how I oc cpu is start increasing multiplier, try to boot and do quick stability test, prime95 will do, once this is stable go back and increase multiplayer. Once it stops booting start increasing voltage untill you’re able to boot. Repeat until you’re happy with the results. Just remember to monitor temps, I’m using HWinfo64

@Whiro tag or quote will do the trick

Steam Deck OLED 512gb , all other pc’s are gone

You can look up the video ltt did specifically for the 4770k.
I run prime to check for stability as it seems to be enough for me.

But my 4770k is a poor overclocker compared to my 4790k.
Think it’s at 4.3 at 1.26 or 1.24.
Not sure what gains you are looking for though.

I have a bad feeling my 4770k is a bad overclocker as well. But I will see what I can do.

Not looking for anything crazy as far as performance gains are concerned. Just trying to squeeze some extra livable life out of my chip. If I could just see like a little bit of speed upgrade, I'll be happy. Next on my list is to upgrade the GPU but I'm not looking to go with new CPU, MOBO and RAM for a while if I don't have too.

I just looked and you have one heck of a nice board, no reason to not squeeze that CPU to the safest limits XTU is a great program from Intel actually to stress test components i recommend doing it while you are sleeping and at work a good 8 hours is probably enough

I do not recommend pushing the speed without setting a manual voltage first like i said 1.2V is a nice starting point.
