no, plan on switching to a 1440p with at least 144hz.

Okay that's why I was asking about it. 1080p requires a fair bit less power than 1440.

Similar to @greeatzy's build, just with a few changes that save some money and get rid of some things that you don't really need

That's also at 4k, so the gains would be more significant at lower resolutions

Depending on title/resolution it's between 10-20% performance gains.

If you're looking for some savings from the top of the budget builds, you could do something like:

And still operate very comfortably at 1440p.

To opt for the 2080S (EVGA XC Ultra Gaming) with the same build, you're at $1459

  • The 3600 and 3700X operate within a very small margin of one another in gaming. The 3700X is a fantastic CPU, but if you're not doing any heavy lifting from a workload perspective, the 3600 is going to perform pretty much the same.
  • The FUMA 2 is frankly overkill, but it is a nice quiet air cooler. The included CPU cooler is certainly usable, but it is a bit noisy. At your budget, you shouldn't be hearing your PC much.
  • I like the EVGA XC Ultra Gaming coolers on the current lineup. Very well build coolers from a trusted company, and really the difference in price from anything competitive is small.
    • I would personally grab the 2080, since it still only puts your build into the low end of your proposed budget range. I believe the performance gains at 1440p will justify the increase.

Sabrent Rocket Q has a phison e12s controller and qlc nand.

I'd rather go with a mx500.

Also 3600mhz cl16 kit can be had for $10 more. It's worth the $10 IMO.

So the 2070 super is better for 1440p in this case and would save a bit of money for something else in the build.

Well... No. It's not better for anything. The 2080S is its superior 100% of the time.

That doesn't make the 2070S a bad choice. It's a great GPU (especially at 1440p gaming, but again the 2080S is still a chunk better), and it does cost less.

That said, we are trying to fit the best gear recommendations into the given budget.

I'm not sure that there is an area of any proposed build that would give you more performance gains than that of the gains between a 2070S and 2080S.

That money is the most bang for buck upgrade when you're already looking at systems with high functioning CPUs and MOBOs, PCIe drives, etc.

So for example if you were thinking maybe 3700X + 2080S vs 3900X + 2070S:

If we are talking about a gaming PC 3700X + 2080S is a much larger margin of gaming performance improvement, because:

  1. The GPU is the largest factor in game performance
  2. The 3900X is not actually that much different than the 3700X (or even the 3600) in terms of gaming performance, because none of the above lack sufficient cores and the single core performance is only marginally better with each step up.

The difference is about 15% improvement, which is pretty big.
