Help upgrading my PC

Go to solution Solved by boggy77,

something like this would be a significant upgrade over what you have and will enable 4k 60fps gaming. with your current 2070 i think you're stuck to 30 fps at 4k in most games.

Heya, I'm about to upgrade my PC, but I'm not really sure about some things.

My current PC is:

CPU: I7 4790K

MOBO: Gigabyte Z97X-SLI

RAM: Kingston Hyperx Fury (2x8) 1866Mhz

GPU: EVGA RTX 2070 (I bought it last year since I was already thinking about the upgrade, so it's the only thing that I don't want to change)

PSU: CoolerMaster GX 750W

I was thinking about upgrading the CPU to I9-9900K, but I don't have any idea about the rest, or even if the 9900K is really a good choice, but I will to change everything on my PC, except the GPU and the PSU if it's possible.

I want a PC mostly for Gaming, and I don't want to change basically anything important on it for a couple years.

I don't really have a budget, but I don't want to buy the most expensive things either.

I mean, your current build looks fine for now. Do you plan on 1440p 144hz or even 4k? Why do you want to upgrade? Do you want to keep your current gpu?

I would advise you to wait for the new 3000 series nvidia, 10000 series intel and 4000 series ryzen, as they are all launching this year

I already try to play some things in 4K, most games I have to play with 30FPS locked if I want to play with 4K, some games I can't even run at 30FPS, but my friends can, I have a better GPU than them, but they have everything else better than me.

I'm not happy with my current PC, for example, there are a some things that I want to use that it's cpu-intensive, and my current CPU can't really handle it, don't even have to talk about the RAM usage.

And yes I want to keep my current GPU, I was thinking about the new Intel series, but I don't really know if I can wait until the release, also I'm from Brazil, so it will come more expensive than anything.

If it were me...I'd upgrade to AMD 3700x before a 9900k, but I don't need/want maximum FPS....just smooth game play with pretty graphics.  I too would consider upgrading to take advantage of current NVMe drives.  This will come into play starting with new game titles starting 2021.  For the cost of a 9900k CPU alone you can buy a 3700x and x570 mobo.  Sporting a 2070 I don't think you could tell the difference between either CPU.

The 3700x is not unlike a next generation console CPU, but of course on steroids...it will handle all the games yet to be developed for the next 5 years.  A NVMe drive will match the drive speeds game developers are coding for, going forward, in large part because both new consoles are sporting NVMe drives.

Thats very very strange cause higher res = less cpu use and a 4790k is not that weak maybe try ocing it a bit to get more single core perf

for 4k it's usually the graphic card that works the hardest, not the cpu. can you monitor cpu and gpu usage during 4k gaming? i'd expect to see gpu at 100% and cpu at 50%, meaning you need to upgrade your gpu, not you cpu. however, if you want a full upgrade now, give me a minute and I'll spec out a build for you.

I didn't really thought about AMD since I had bad experiences with it before, but reading more about it made me consider it again, thanks for the build.
