Why are my 280x's different?

I got these received these 2 cards yesterday from the same website and they were listed as identical but they are slightly different.

  

 

Why is this?

I see a big heat pipe on top of the second one, but not the first one in the pictures... As long as they work, I wouldn't worry about it. Could also be two different revisions MSI made.

Could be different revisions of the same product? (but I would imagine since the 280x is a  2year old card they would have a set design by now?)

Does it say what brand/type they are in gpu-z?

One has a reference pcb and the other has a custom. The one with a 6 pin and 8 pin is the reference pcb and the one with two 8 pins is the custom. Send the reference back in and have them send you another as the custom one is a much better design.

Those are not slightly different, they are vastly different. My guess would originally have been that they're different revisions, but seeing as the PCB's are THAT different I find that unlikely.

Alright. Your cards will be fine but I'd recommend sending back the one that has only an 8 and 6 pin. If it's too much hassle, it's nothing to worry about.

The one on the right looks like a rev 1 and the other is a rev 2. Chances are the one on the right has control over the vcore and the left one does not.
