Notebook upgrade - driver question

Hello dear community

 

I am going to upgrade a friend's acer aspire 7741g the upcoming weekend. 

Besides the ram and the battery I will install an ssd and do a fresh install of windows 10.

 

Now to my question:

 

Will win 10 automatically install all the drivers needed when I connect the device to the internet "automagically"? 

 

It's been a while since I had my hands on a laptop and didn't just clone the drive. Unfortunately in this case this is not an option as the new ssd is smaller than the HDD installed atm. 

 

Any help is greatly appreciated

I'd recommend updating/installing the drivers manually. Or using Iobit Driver Booster.

I would have updated the drivers anyway, but after a windows install I should be able to get booted up and proceed as usual (desktop) right?

It should work.

 

You might experience issues installing the graphics driver though, the hd 5000 series doesn't have proper win10 drivers - might need to install the legacy driver using win8 compatibility mode.

Please don't recommend crapware. Every single 3rd party driver software is prone to cause more harm than good.

 

As someone who has just recently installed clean Win10 to old laptop, this is bit tricky. It didn't install all drivers correctly, but I could use Lenovo's site to download needed drivers. But even after that I have to deal with couple issues. One being MS security options not working, other being whole task bar being black color.

I noticed that this may happens when you have fresh install. Windows install some updates and while updates are working, some Windows parts may work strange. Especially start menu with taskbar.

I assume this is your personal opinion cause it's not based in facts. Have you used it? Or is there a study proving the newer versions of IObit Driver Booster are what you claim them to be? Plese give proof.

 

I do recommend Driver Booster because I have positive experience with it. On tens if not hundreds of machines that passed through my hands.

I have used it. Noticed that it recommends updates that don't exist. Noticed that trying to use free version does nothing. Using paid version (before I demanded my money back) caused me to recovery system after it messed the drivers.

 

I have good experiences from IObit software. But their Uninstaller, Driver Booster and Game Booster are crap and will remain crap. ASC went very much downhill year ago and I stopped using it. Smart Defrag is actually still good, but I'm in process of looking another software to replace it so I don't have to pay IObit for anything.

Strange, haven't experienced the free version not working and the "fake" updates, whenever I looked I was able to find the drivers it offered as updates. Maybe you haven't checked all the places drivers can get available from? Rhetoric question, no need to answer.

Tldr - you're not recommending it because of your experiences with it, I'm recommending it based on my experiences. We can't debate who has it more (experience).
