Hi guys!

I am looking to upgrade an old Acer Aspire M3900 to the point where it can play basic games such as CS:GO, OW, etc. My main interest is FPS games.

My budget is around 400-500USD. I thought this would be a good opportunity to get started with PC-building, and perhaps save a few bucks in the process, but I have no idea how feasible it is with the components I have.

Old Components:

- Intel Pentium E5800 3.2GHz processor

- 4 GB DDR3 RAM

- Acer  EG43M motherboard

- NVIDIA GeForce 405 graphics card

- dps-300ab-39c power supply, delivering 300W

I know that i can upgrade the ram to 8 GB, but with regards to processor and graphics card I am lost, and can't figure out what would be compatible. Furthermore, the motherboard has one PCI-expressx16 2.0 slot, and I heard it can lead to issues with 3.0 cards. And lastly I am unsure that the power supply can power a modern card and processor. Is this a bad idea, or can it be done?

Cheers!

This is a case of starting again from 0. You ok with that? Nothing is worth keeping here.

Bit over budget but you can always drop down the cpu or get a used gpu for cheaper. An rx580 or 480 can be found for less than the new rx570 and will be better but that is up to you to decide.

This seems like a good bet. I think i'll pay up for the 570. Thank you so much for the help!
