Hi LTT forum,

I have a problem here. Today i tried to shorten the ram timings because my memory is slow (ddr3 800 mhz cl10) I tried to get it to boot on cl8. I set everything, boom. Black screen. The interesting thing is that it boots up with my old gpu (might be because it has ddr3 memory for vram). Is it an incompatibility problem?

My rig:

- AMD FX 4300 3.8 ghz (stock)

- HyperX Fury DDR3 1600 mhz (for some reason the motherboard only lets it run on 800 mhz) CL10

- MSI 970a-g43

- some ssd

- some hdd

- 600W psu

- new gpu: XFX RX 580 8 gb GDDR5

- old gpu: Sapphire Radeon R7 240e 2 gb DDR3

Hello and welcome.

It sounds like you have an unstable RAM overclock, but I can't think of why one GPU works and the other doesn't.  I'd imagine both would behave the same.

Did you test the new GPU without that RAM overclock?
