Can my GTX 1080 be fake?

BakaPetra

Hello guys. On the 8th of January I bought a Gainward Phoenix GTX 1080 for $200. I was just shopping for something in the maximum $200 range ( GTX 1060 ), and came across my card. I contacted the seller and he sent the GPU.

Windows and GPU-Z detects it as a 1080, and even the drivers work corretly, but it underperforms. According to GPU-Z it has the correct amount and type of VRAM, and the correct amount ot ROPs/TMUs. Also according to GPU-Z, the bios is on the card is the original one that the card came with in 2016.

Can it underperform so badly due to my old FX-8350 ( Ordered Ryzen 5 3600X already ), or it's an other 10 series card with a hacked bios. It performs  like a 1070, sometimes like a 1070ti.

Here are some pictures ( GPU-Z, Superposition score, and how it looks )

Thx for help :D

What even makes you think an FX CPU is fine with a GTX 1080? There's a reason why it nearly ended AMD for good. Yes it's a CPU bottleneck.

To be fair, still an upgrade over the 1060 you were expecting (also the 1060 is worth a lot less than $200, more like $90). A 1070 goes for about $200 on the used market.

Use some software like Hwmonitor to see if your CPU is maxed out in games. I'm not surprised if your FX CPU is holding you back

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

How many watts do I needATX 3.0 & PCIe 5.0 spec, PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

I think it's probably legit, but can't be absoltuely 100% sure.

It's your CPU that's massively holding back perfomance, and maybe partially the relatively slow RAM.

So guys, turn our that the cards is indeed real! Changed the thermal pads and paste today, and went to my friends place who has an i-9 9900k. We popped in the card, applyed my overclock ( +250 on core, +600 on memory ) and run the bench. We made 4620 point in Superposition 1080p extreme ( If we upload that scroce to the site it would be the 35th highest 1080 score, and it's not even watercooled :D )
