Memory compatibility upgrade

Go to solution Solved by Constantin,

As long that they have the same specs, the different brand doesn't matter, they will work just fine.

If the specs are different, the PC will run on the lowest ram installed.

Hello everyone!

I want to upgrade my work rig to 128 GB of ram. I work with big 3d environments and I need the space. I build a first generation Threadripped PC that I'm still using, but I want to add an extra 64 GB of RAM. The MB I'm using is the Asus Zenith Extreme.

The kit that I have now is:  G.Skill F4-3200C15Q-64GTZR, D4, 3200MHz, 64GB, C15 GSkill TriZ K4 R , but I can't find it in stock here where I live. I found GSKill Trident Z Neo 64GB DDR4 3200MHz CL16 Quad Channel Kit ( code is F4-3200C16Q-64GTZN ). Same MHz but different CL.. would it be compatible to use and upgrade? I would need it as soon as possible.. will order today if someone would confirm this should work with no problems.

Thank you so much for your time,

Alex

The only difference I see is the CL, mine has 15, the new kit has 16. I wonder if this would cause some problems...

All of the RAM sticks will start running at the higher CL (16), which won't make that big of a difference. There shouldn't be any other issues.
