Minecraft lagging on an RX 590

Gee_

Hi, I recently upgraded my GPU from a GTX 950 (EVGA) to a brand new RX 590 (Gigabyte), everything seemed normal until I tried running minecraft. The results were horrible (fps averaging at 20ish). One weird point is that the GPU clock speeds stay at idle numbers at most of the time: 300 for the GPU and 400 for the memory.

I've already tried to:

  • Reinstall all GPU drivers using DDU
  • Overclock the GPU
  • Reinstall Java and Minecraft
  • Switch the installation folder to an SSD

Windows 10 Pro, Build 18362

Joshua-H61-uATX (Joshua)

 -Intel core i7-3770 @ 3.4GHz

 - RX 590 8GB Gigabyte

    -BIOS: 015.050.003.000.000000

 -2x 4GB DDR3 @1660MHz

 -Kingston 960GB SSD

 -Seagate 1TB HDD

-EVGA 550w psu

Is it normal with other games? Did you update the motherboard bios to the latest version?

is your render distance set to 48 chunks? Also sometimes for weird reasons minecraft will try to us the integrated graphics instead of the graphics card. This happened to me once.

It's currently at 32, however, 16 won't do much of a difference

  • 2 weeks later...

Also, not very familiar with gpu bios, but why do different brands names come up when searching that bios version you've listed? Did you install the latest vbios on the official manufacturer website?
