You missed out on the promotion for a great one just a while ago other than that inexpensive I would say Vegas Movie Studio 12 Platinum for the price it can't really be beat its like Vegas except with some things taken out

Do you know how much and where I can get it? Also, will it only be for 1 computer?

I have it and I believe their policy is you can install it on up to 3 computers and use the software as long as its not running at the same time, the software should be found on sonys website (if you are a student look for a discount on it from other stores)

People like Lightworks because it is professional and free. The only thing you have to pay for is the Codecs and I think that is like $60. The only reason you have to pay for the Codecs because codecs have licensing fees and Lightworks company will go under if they didn't charge. Lightworks already comes with alot of Codecs but the big "popular" ones will cost you little money.

EDIT*: Lightworks is on Linux, Mac OSX, and Windows.

Shame you missed HitFilm giving away their Express version. Personally I prefer Premiere, but HitFilm is pretty great as well. In my opinion there is no adequate free substitute for the more expensive programs though, they really are so much better.
