In terms of cooling, are heatsinks for m.2s practical?

yes, but not a must have.

An m.2 probably doesn't need a heatsink to work unless you have very poor airflow in your case, and even then a heatsink won't help much since it cools the m.2 from the airflow.

So only if you know you will be transferring very big files very often so it would be under heavy load constantly.

if it's just for normal gaming/OS drive then it's not needed at all.

Unless you like the looks

Anything i've written between the * and * is not meant to be taken seriously.

keep in mind that helping with problems is hard if you aren't specific and detailed.

i'm also not a professional, (yet) so make sure to personally verify important information as i could be wrong.

What would be a great way to cool it down?

Generally just having a case with decent airflow does the trick.

No they really dont do anything worth noting. The Controller is the only thing needing any sort of cooling.

Don't say that in generel. Really much depends on the controller and the placement of the SSD. On PCI-E 4.0 drives you need a heatsink. (Most of them comes with a heatsink though).

You can always get standard memory heatsinks like these and put them on:

Oh. I actually didn't think of that.

How much are they about average?

Agains. Its in general M.2 SSD's dont need a headsink. Its literally just the controller that needs any sort of cooling. Gen4 SSD's also have superhot Controllers, the heatsinks they come with help, but they are rushed, ill give it a bit before ever considering that.
