New Router / Modem

ZeusXI

So I have this router Linksys CG7500 AC1900 DOCSIS 3.0 24x8 Wi-Fi Cable Modem Router (https://www.newegg.com/linksys-cg7500-modem-router-combo/p/N82E16825120008?Description=Linksys%20CG7500%20AC1900%20DOCSIS%203.0%2024x8%20Wi-Fi%20Cable%20Modem%20Router&cm_re=Linksys_CG7500_AC1900_DOCSIS_3.0_24x8_Wi-Fi_Cable_Modem_Router-_-25-120-008-_-Product)

And my family is getting fed up with random dropped wireless. The speed we are paying for is 250mbps (but ive seen 280 occasionally on my phone with speedtest when im near the router)

What router/modems would you suggest for say...under $140 USD?

Also we have a medium sized house (about 2600sq feet) and a fair amount of devices

  • 2 Printers
  • 4 phones
  • 4 laptops
  • 1 desktop (Mine for gaming)
  • 1 Firestick 4k
  • 1 Apple Tv (1st gen)
  • 1 Alexa Dot
  • 1 Roku in the shed (2.4Ghz range only)

All devices, other than 1 laptop, support the 5G band

Possible Dosics 3.0 and 24x8 lanes would be nice to help congestion

I wouldn't recommend an all in one here. If you get your full speed when wired directly to the router, get an access point for JUST handling wireless connections. You'll get better connection speed, MiMo 3x3 or better, and less drops. Around $140, you could pick up a Unifi AC PRO, or a wireless router like a Netgear Nighthawk. Either wouldn't be a bad option.

Fine you want the PSU tier list? Have the PSU tier list: https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/1116640-psu-tier-list-40-rev-103/

Part of the issue is that combo device you have has the shitty Intel Puma 6 chip. There is issues with the chip, its well documented over at DSLreports.com. That being said, Id recommend a modem and seperate router. Just stay away from any Docsis 3.0 32x8 modems as they all have puma 6 in them. Any thing else should be good.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.
