Good morning everyone,

I'll start by saying that I'm definitely not an expert, thus my question might be fairly easy to answer and make me look like a moron lol

Anyway, here's the deal:

I had an old mobo laying around (Asus p8h61-mlx) and a hyper X ddr3 4 gigs stick (hx313c9f/4), both without any use so I decided to put together a low budget pc. I bought a i5 2320 and, after booting it up, I saw it was working, alongside the recognised 4gb module. I ordered some parts, one of them was another 4 gigs stick, and waited. A few days ago a friend gifted me two sticks of bundled hyper X ddr3 4 gigs (hx313c9frk2/8)(oh the irony) so I tried them both. No post from the mobo. I tried one at a time and one made the mother board give output so I guessed that one was dead but when I paired the working one with the other I had already there wasn't any sign of life from the board. Of course I tried the initial one by itself and it works.

From what I've seen they're both 1333 MHz, with equal capacity and from the same manufacturer.Anyone has any idea why?

Try resetting CMOS between testing the sticks, that can cause errors if not.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I tried and it didn't work

Maybe the second slot in the mobo Is burned?

Edit: is there a way to troubleshoot?

Try the working stick in the other slot to test if that slot is dead or not.

  • 1 month later...

Sometimes it works, some time it doesn't... Now a new problem has appeared: when I connect the two pins with my screwdriver the PC starts and immediately stops, without booting anything...

At this point I'll just change the mobo, Wich is probably the root of these problems. Thank you for the replies.
