Software suggestions

Go to solution Solved by Analog,

I could suggest that you get something like the Symantec 360 antivirus. It basically protects your entire PC form everything. Installing TuneupUtilities 2014 and optimize the system as much as possible. You can also create a schedule for automatic maintenance: registry files, dump files, broken shortcuts, defragmentation, unnecessary windows and browser files etc). This will keep that laptop alive for some time.

Unfortunately all of this software is paid, but in my opinion it is worth it. I have been using both of these programs for years.

I need to "retard proof" a new laptop as much as possible, This laptop is for a man that clicks every attachment in every email that he receives even if he doesn't know who it's from, he has absolutely no common sense when it comes to browsing and general computer usage. Preferably I would like some form of parental control software that isn't very noticeable but is effective and preferably free, though a paid version of something may be possible. Before anyone suggests that I educate him just know that I can't, I've tried on several occasions but he is the type of person who "knows everything and has done everything" you cannot tell him anything because he will argue and fight and tell you you're wrong no matter how blatantly obvious it is that you're right, evidence and facts mean nothing to this man. My mom is buying him a laptop because he wouldn't pay $300 to get his 7 year old laptop from a repair store because it was full of viruses and god knows what else. He takes it to repair stores every two months for a "tune up" and he believes that that just how it is. I don't want the money my mom is spending on this laptop to go to waste by him ruining the thing in a week so I could really use some suggestions as to what software is good. If you don't know about any but know of someone on the forum that might I would appreciate it if you could point them towards this thread.

Thanks much,

He will probably need an i7 4700MQ to power through all of the viruses, and a few TB of HDD space is probably necessary to store all of those junk files. As for software, I would suggest either you remove all admin privileges from his account, or he switches to linux so that viruses won't effect him.

The laptop has already been bought, Linux isn't a possibility as he's coming from Windows XP and is completely computer illiterate plus teaching him how to Linux would be impossible.

These look pretty good, you you have any suggestions for free software in case paid software isn't doable?

Not really. If you go with a free program, it will lack some basic functionality and ultimately not get the job done. In case they seem to expensive for your budget, from what I know, you can find them pirated pretty easily if you know were to look.
