1440p 144Hz Monitor

Zeorth

Hi, I'm currently using a 1080p 144Hz monitor (Asus VG248QE) and I feel that its time to move up to 1440p. However, I have some questions regarding this.
1. Which 1440p 144Hz monitor is the cheapest while yielding good results?
2. Is 1440p a big jump from 1080p?

3. Ive been looking at the MG278Q. Is this a good choice?

4. Will my GTX 1080 be able to handle it?

I'd say it's a pretty decent step up, assuming it's a larger monitor such as 27" or above.

You probably won't be able to get 144fps in AAA games, but you will be fine for esports titles.

Its worth It and you will notice a huge chance, I have an Acer VG270U something like that, for 300€, usually its for 400€ and its an IPS 1440p 144fps pretty good for its price (even 400€), so Id go with that, no less than 27", no less than 1440p, no less than 144fps, and that is a pretty decent IPS monitor that will be perfect for that purpose

I have the same monitor (except mine is only 75Hz), and I would also highly recommend it. Very good bang-for-the-buck 1440p IPS monitor, high refresh rate and very low input lag. Plus it's a freesync monitor and gysnc seems to work well on it. Only problem is the stand is shit but that can be solved with any decent monitor stand from amazon.

I would say definitely go for IPS or VA if you can, the improved picture quality is worth it.

The cheapest 27" 1440p 144Hz monitor that I can find here is the Asus MG278Q since it's on sale. Even on sale its 470 USD. Monitors are extremely expensive here, so IPS is a bit far fetched.

I see. I guess if you care about the high refresh rate more than image quality and are on a budget that's fine. What kind of games do you play?

Ah ok a bit of a mix then. I was asking because i you only played games such as the witcher 3 then you would probably be better off with a 60/75Hz IPS panel, as you aren't goiing to get 144fps anyway and graphics matter. However if you also play multiplayer shooters like modern warfare you might be able to get 144fps and framerate matters more than graphics. Your choice really.

Yea, it is a decent mix. Sometimes I play more multiplayer and other times I just play AAA games. So the choice between refresh rate and panel type is a hard one tbh. Can't really decide.

Haha I had the same issue. Monitor ended up being the hardest choice.

what if you play a little bit of both styles of games what do you recommend for someone with a 980 ti card ?

Idk, depends on your budget. If you can afford a 1440p 144Hz monitor then you might as well try, get the best of both worlds. However 1440p 144Hz IPS panels can be expensive so it's up to you.

visually looking for best results with a 980 ti, would like to get a 1440p monitor, but thinking with today's games 1080p w/ 144 hrz might be the better bet

Do that then, you'll defo be able to run most games at 1080p 144fps on high settings with the 980ti.

1440p is 78% more pixels to render than 1080p, so take that into account when expecting high FPS in games.  I'm on a 1070 and don't have much problems running games at a lower setting for higher FPS.
