PC wont work

Hi, so basically I bought a RX 590 Fatboy to replace my RX 460. I took out the 460 and put in the 590 correctly (I think, I followed the video). I plug everything into my PC and turn it on, it turns on, all the lights and fans come on, my seagate harddrive light comes on, but my PC wont communicate with my monitor, I have tried different hdmi cables, took out my ram and put it back in (while pc was off), and cleaned out dust.

I have an Intel core I5-6500 processor, an Asus B150 Pro Gaming/AURA, 8gb of ram, RX 590 Fatboy, and EVEA 500W power supply, a seagate 4tb external harddrive, and a viewsonic curved 144hz monitor.

Maybe could be a chance the GPU is not fully seated into the PCI-e slot? have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the card?

Put the original GPU back in and see if it posts then.

But even without the new gpu, The pc should still display onto the monitor right?

If the processor you are using has on board graphics, you could plug your display cable to the available port on the motherboard, and see if it POSTs. If you are using a processor without on board graphics, you need a GPU. So I again would do these 2 things first:

 

1. Uninstall the GPU and plug it back in, retest.

2. Try reinstalling your old GPU and retest.

 

and of course, ensure all cables including display cables are fully seated, monitor is plugged in etc.

 

 

If you plug your old card in and it works, I would suspect the GPU has an issue. the only way to confirm after this would be to try the new card in a different system if possible.

Ok, so as im removing the card, I touch it and it is warm. Is that normal? Should it even be hot if it isnt working?

Yeah something smells fishy here. I would still complete your attempt at re-seating the GPU and attempting to boot up, and follow that with your old card. I hope you bought the card new, because you can at least exchange it if it is defective. Otherwise, if you bought it used, I would be worried.

Without the GPU the PC would display on a monitor connected to the motherboard if the CPU has integrated graphics.

Once the GPU is in that will be disabled and the monitor must be plugged into the GPU.

I changed the hdmi to my processor. It has graphics, the card is on my desk. So i know it not working has something to do with thr card

Could I possibly run both my graphics cards? The 460 and 590? Would that make it possible to have two monitors, one for gaming and one for other things?

So I want to confirm that you had a display cable plugged into your new GPU when the issue was present. I know thats probably a stupid question but no harm in asking.

 

If I had to make a guess, if you have it working with no GPU, if you install your old GPU into the system it will also probably work.

 

My last suggestion would be to try installing the new card into a different PCI-e port if possible. If you still have no display, I would guess you have a bad card. Return or exchange if possible.

I have no display with either card now, but I have a display without a card when I plugged the hdmi into the motherboard

Okay this could now move from a GPU issue to a motherboard issue. Try installing the new card into a different PCI express slot.

Judging by his previous responses, I am assuming he had a display cable plugged into the GPU, as he mentions he did plug it into the motherboard (Assuming he had one plugged inn, in the first place)

Yes, I has the cable plugged into the gpu when the issue was present. I also had the cable plugged into the motherboard hdmi spot when it worked with the integrated graphics.

Also the new card is too big to fit into a different pci slot. There isnt enough room in my pc case, it will only fit into the top pci slot

for the sake of trial and error, I would still recommend trying a nother pci-e slot. if that means you have to unscrew the PSU and set it out of the way to do it, then so be it. I would also carefully inspect the terminals on the GPU's to make sure they arent damaged. When you removed the old card, did you pull back on the securing tab of the pci-e slot? did you just rip it out? a GPU swap of this caliber should not be very complicated at all.

I pushed down the little lever switch latch thing so it released the card

Mind you, this is my first time even opening this computer, I know nothing about it, dont even know what a PSU is. I know, I should have probably dont more research, and I tried another PCi slot with my old smaller card, that didnt work either

PSU is your power supply. That big box at the bottom with all the wires. At this point, if you are not comfortable further diagnosing the problem, I would suggest you take it to your local computer technicians for diag.
