I have a GPU that requires an 8-pin PCIE connector.

My PSU only has 2x 6pin power connectors.

So I took my 8 pin PCIE power cable, took two pins off one side and plugged it into the PSU, and then plugged the 8 pin end into the GPU.

Is this the correct way?

edit: This is my GPU

Could you please specify what power supply you have?

Normally you would take a cable that comes with your power supply, which has a 6 pin and a '+2 pin' on the side and you plug that into your gpu.

But I have a hard time understanding what exactly kind of cable you use.

the cables should be marked which way round they go, you shouldnt really need to break of anything from the psu end, what psu are you using?

I have this power supply.

I don’t have the original cables, but I am using this PCIE power cable.

Your link is sending me back to this thread, so still not sure which cable you using.

Your second link points to this thread.

But anyways, I wouldn't really recommend the CX 2012 for a GPU that needs a 6+2 pin.

But just check if the cables are the same type (type 3, type 4, etc.)

Well, I could always order a replacement card that only requires a 6 pin. But the problem is I cannot find a 6 pin PCIE power cable anywhere online. Any thoughts?

If you can’t find your cables for psu you can always order replacement

https://www.corsair.com/uk/en/Categories/Products/Accessories-|-Parts/PC-Components/Power-Supplies/Type-3-Sleeved-Black-PCIe-Cable/p/CP-8920111

But like @minibois said I would recommend replacing this psu entirely.

Ahhh why you didn’t asked before. This psu is not great as well. I know it’s quite cheap but for little more you could get something much better
