I am looking to upgrade my PC's memory from 8GB to 12 or 16 GB.

I currently have a HyperX rammodule that's 1x8GB at around 2300mhz, can't remember exactly. I only have 2 ramslots on my mobo (mini itx). Can I just plop whatever ram I want in there or do I have to take the size, speed etc into account? Thanks

The ram needs to be the same speed.
It's also best to try to use the exact same type of ram (brand and model) because sometimes mixing ram can cause comparability issues.
However, you should be able to mix sizes just fine. So a 8 and 4gb stick, as long as they are the same speed.

another 8GB stick is better, so you dont lose speed after the first 8GB (if you use a 4GB stick)

different speed sticks = both run at the speed of the slower one, it will still work regardless though. There is no 2300MHz kit, I guess it's 2133?

Yeah I believe it's 2133 or maybe it was a 2666 even. I can check in a bit. The actual ram speed I'm not super concerned about, I just need some damn more so I can open 4 tabs of chrome
