Upgrading over Winter break

Hello LTT community, 

 

my current specs are these:

-i5 7500

-rx 480 4gb

-8gb ddr4 ram (one stick)

-corsair 450W psu

 

I have trouble recording, being in a discord call and playing games like overwatch at the same time. I think my gpu is actually not that bad but I want to upgrade my cpu and maybe add some ram. 
 

Could you recommend me some deals on cpu’s? I think Linus recommended the ryzen 7 3700X or 3800X but then I would also have to change my motherboard. 
 

I have been waiting to upgrade for months but I think I will finally buy new components after Christmas because i expect to see some price drops.

Ryzen is a great upgrade and it will serve you well. the 3700X is an incredible CPU and it won't let you down.

Alternatively, you could consider trying to use Radeon ReLive to record your gameplay, shifting most of the processing burden of recording onto the GPU and reducing stuttering.

Best bang for your buck would be to upgrade RAM and get yourself a m.2 drive.

I wouldn't sell your CPU short, I would first upgrade to dual channel ram before shelling out for a new CPU. You can buy it, test it out, and then return it if it doesn't give you what you need. Besides, that if your main purpose is gaming, I would go with a 3600 over the 3700x or 3800x.
