I'm using LG C9 as PC Monitor, howto configure ARC and Auto switch on

M P

Hello dear LTT Community,

saw that yesterday Linus released a video about the LG C9 which I am actually using as PC Monitor (but "just" the 55 Inch Version, wanted a 2 in 1 Monitor/TV for my small Studio Apartment).

I bought it 2 months ago (For sweet 1399 Euroes) but hadn't had much time to set it up properly yet, and have two Problems which you maybe can help me with:

1. My setup is this LG C9 monitor connected over HDMI to my GTX 1060 6GB. The PC is connected via AUX to my Audio System.

Now when I play movies on the PC everything is ok, but since the LG C9 does have no AUX Output I can connect my older speakers only to my PC.

Now I thought I could use ARC from the TV to transfer the Audio from my TV to my PC, but it seems Nvidea is not supporting ARC In (Or it is technically not possible, since

the GPU would need an Audio In?). Maybe somebody has an Idea about that.

Haven't checked: is there a adapter from aux to HDMI?, wouldn't that ruin the sound?

2. Automatic turn on. So far I still have to switch on the tv with the remote. Is there yet a technology to send a wake up signal over HDMI to the TV? Wondering since this exists for so long already.

Also it seems the tv also does not support the windows turn off display, since after 30 Minutes the TV just shows no signal. Is there a setting to configure that.

Btw: A few tips for people also wanna do that:

I first was very disapointed because the graphics looked terrible and pixelated., the TV is by default set to 16:9, so the image is cropped. Set the input to original source.

20:20 hindsight: 55 Inch is way too big for a monitor that is 50 centimeters from your face.  Believe the people on the internet.... but it is still awsome...

I use a 55" B9 as a monitor and I use the optical input from the TV to a sound bar.

TVs like sound bars and HDMI so that is what I went with.

The image I get is perfect. Windows set the scaling to 300% as default but I changed it to 125% and it displays like any 4k monitor.

The computer I use was connected to a 32" 4k LG monitor before so that is the only adjustment I had to make.

I switch the computer on and then the TV using the button in the middle(bottom) sort of like I do with monitors. I only use the remote if I am using the TV features.

I have the TV on a 30" table so it is 80 cm away from me and when I am watching movies I pull out my chair a bit so about 100 cm. This is perfect for me as well.

My only issue is that the image quality of Netflix through the computer is not even close to the image quality I get going through the smart feature on the remote. YouTube is the same from both sources.

I am so happy with the TV that I plan next year to replace my LG 38" 3840 X 1600 ultra wide with one unless someone comes out with a 48" 21:9 4k ultra wide monitor.

I think the TV will be much cheaper so a better bet.

No I did not.

The "off" button on the OLED TV and remote is really a stand by button. After switching it "off", it does its image retention prevention thing so the TV should never be off power.

I also have an X Box, PlayStation and a cable box connected to the TV and the computer is only used about a third of the time the TV is on so not point for me to have them on the same switch.

On a non gaming PC you could use the sleep mode in the Windows settings so it would wake up when switching on the TV.

If the TV was more like an LG monitor it would have a automatic standby mode and would never have to be switch off.  That is what I use on my non gaming PCs. Instead the TV has a screen saver.

Have you had issues where you get random blinking while playing a pc game? Other users on avs forum are reporting this same issue. It happens totally at random and very infrequently.

"Every now and then when playing a PC game (RTX 2080 TI EVGA Black) my screen flashes black for a micro second. If you blink you can almost miss it. I've tried different HDMI cables (monoprice certified and now a securemax 8k cable. It only happens in some PC games (most AC:O but now Quantum Break). Any idea on this? I'm playing at 1080P and at 120hz. I've tried 1440P as well. Color is 422 YbCr in the control panel."
