Need some tech tips

Go to solution Solved by Lee989,

There are two M.2 slots. M.2_1 (top) and M.2_2 (bottom).

M.2_1 will disable SATA port 1 if you use a SATA M.2 device (because it needs to use the bandwidth from that port, all other SATA ports remain usable). The Samsung 970 Evo is an NVMe device, so it will NOT disable SATA port 1.

M.2_2 I believe disables SATA ports 5 & 6 in order to run at full speed for NVMe devices. Ports 1 - 4 remain usable (unless you also have a SATA device in M.2_1 in which case ports 2-4 remain usable)

TLDR; Plug your Samsung Evo into the top M.2 slot, plug your Barracuda into any SATA port. Won't be a problem

Hi. Im planning to install a 1TB Samsung 970 EVO Plus on my computer to work as my windows drive and a drive for some games and software. My concern is that will my motherboard support it? Specs in the spoiler:

Spoiler

GPU: GTX 1660 Ti

CPU: i5-8400

Motherboard: ASUS Prime Z370-P II

RAM: 16GB hyperx fury ddr4 (dont remember frequency)

HDD: 7200RPM 1TB Seagate Barracuda

PSU: 550W Corsair (cant remember the model of this)

I put my specs in pcpartpicker to test compability and it said something about that the NVMe port and the SATA port on my motherboard use the same bandwith and so the SATA port will be disabled, however i dont want this because i want to use it as a drive for my photos and other files. Should i worry or not?

It's warning you about shared lanes, but that's only a problem if you have every SATA port in use.
