The micro usb connnector is pretty fraigle

but now i want to talk about he locking mechanism

the mechanism is fragile and on cheaper cables can it break from normal everyday use (pluging in and out, being wiggled around in a backpack ect). My cable survived quite a bit of time but just until recently is behaved strangely, it simpy would not charge at certain angles and wiggles around in the port. The problem was well..... the locking mechanism, the brackets got pushed inside the connector and i don't know how to get them out.It wasn't the cable that came with the phone beacause that one also broke, and what caused it i still don't know. Hopefully were moving away from micro usb in favor of usb-c, but to pepole who have an older phone this is a problem, which can be fixed by getting a magnetic usb cable

But what causes the locking mechanism to be so fragile?

Crap design spec.  USBC was actually pushed out early at the behest of phone manufacturers because the microUSB2 was so bad.  And yes it is the cable latches. The latch spec was slapped on at the last minute and there was enough variance in the spec to allow for lousy cables to be produced.  Just keep buying replacement cables.  They often last as little as 2 weeks.  Make sure it’s a good latch when you buy it.  They’re of wildly varying quality. The port may be worn out too though so you could just be SOL.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Life is like a bowl of chocolates: there are all these little crinkly paper cups everywhere.
