Is 1660 Super a good upgrade over RX 470?

souvik200

I have a sapphire RX 470 4GB (Blower Style cooler - which is very loud and the card gets too hot now, after 3 years), I was thinking of upgrading. Is the 1660 Super a good upgrade over a RX 470? Or should I spend more and get a RTX 2060 non-super? Where I live the 1660 Super costs 19000 INR (~267 USD) and the 2060 costs 25500 INR (~358 USD).

EDIT:
I play mostly AAA games (Red Dead 2, Assassins Creed Series etc.) and PUBG.

Not a bad option, but which 1660 Super among so many of them?

Is the roughly 90 USD difference between the 1660 super and 2060 worth it if I consider Red Dead 2 as the primary game. I have a Ryzen 5 2600, and I wish to game at 1080p Medium Settings? I can buy the 2060 if it is worth the price.

AMD's RX 5700 could be even better choice, if Indian prices don't screw it over (and filtering out the badly cooled ones)

Again, which 2060? Not a bad idea to go for the 2060 but only if it doesnt mean having a deep cut on something else's budget.

RX 5700 costs 32000 INR (~450 USD) for Gigabyte Gaming OC version which is the same price as a 2060 Super. AMD always price their cards way higher in India initially, but they drop to almost nothing after 1-2 years.

I was thinking about the zotac 2060. https://www.zotac.com/us/product/graphics_card/zotac-gaming-geforce-rtx-2060

Since I am just upgrading the GPU it won't cut into any other parts' budget but I am willing to put in the extra money if it would be worth the 90 USD, and I am confused in this regard.

It's hard to say it's "good" since you likely spent $150-200ish on your RX 470. The 1660 S will outperform by a decent margin, but at $230-250ish I would keep saving.

Really the 2060 Super / RX 5700 is the upgrade margin I would be looking for.

Please, before going at the rtx 2060 (non Super) read reviews about that very card, especially when your existing rx470 already exceeds your heat- and noise-expectations. Similar but yet not as worse is it with rx5700 which at least gets a performance near the level of rtx2070.

Slightly below rtx2060 there's the 1660Ti, in case you have doubts about the 1660 Super beeing sufficient.

The 5700 is way overpriced in my country, so either I can wait for the price to drop or get the 2060.

My RX 470 is really bad, I guess any non-blower style card should be better than this, and the Zotac one has good reviews.
I can also get the Gigabyte Gaming  OC one at the same price.

Well... a bit. But it's the same as a 2060S. That's its direct competitor anyway.

Yes, here it's price is close to a 2060s, but even if I increase my budget to that price, I dont think that it would be a very good deal at ~ 450 USD.
Although I would have preferred an AMD card (if the price was justified in my country) because my monitor has freesync over HDMI only and AMD is the only one to support that.

As of now I suppose I would go for the 2060 non-super and overclock it slightly if need be. However I will wait for 1-2 months before getting it to see if the price drops on the 5700 to something reasonable in India. Most retailers here don't even keep the 5700 / XT here in India and I don't know why that is.

Might want to see what the price is for the 5500 XT then... It's not that powerful of a GPU, but it should be significantly cheaper...

The cheapest 5700 XT costs 36500 INR (~520 USD).

I can find a 2070 super for just 39000 INR (~550 USD) here in India which is a better card for just 30 USD more

It depends on the model of the card at that point, but most likely a 2070S would be the better buy.
