I am testing it by trying to play gta5. At max settings at 1080p I get at the very most 100fps. It can barely stay above 85 most of the time. Shouldn't my graphics card be able to run gta at 144hz. GeForce Expirience says so, yet it just lags

The RAGE engine used for GTA V doesn't scale particularly well for high FPS.

Here's some benchmark results for 1080p Very High quality.

Make sure you don't have settings in GTA V set like resolution scaling, as you could be rendering it at a resolution higher than 1080p.

Try some different games, or better yet a synthetic test like 3DMark TimeSpy.

Hey guys, so my rtx 2080 isn't running as fast as it should and I'm wondering if theres a problem with how it connects to my power supply. I have a single 8 pin plugged into my power supply and 2 8 pins plugged into my graphics card. Could this be my problem? Do I need to plug 2 into my psu and 2 into my gpu. Thanks!

No.

What are your system specs?
How are you testing the GPU?
What performance figures are you getting?
What do you score in benchmark tools such as 3D Mark Timespy?

CPU: Intel i7 6700k  | Motherboard: Gigabyte Z170x Gaming 5 | RAM: 2x16GB 3000MHz Corsair Vengeance LPX | GPU: Gigabyte Aorus GTX 1080ti | PSU: Corsair RM750x (2018) | Case: BeQuiet SilentBase 800 | Cooler: Arctic Freezer 34 eSports | SSD: Samsung 970 Evo 500GB + Samsung 840 500GB + Crucial MX500 2TB | Monitor: Acer Predator XB271HU + Samsung BX2450

I have the following

Ryzen 3900x

Rtx 2080

64g 3000 ddr4 ram

Aorus gaming elite x570

A 144hz monitor

A 750w psu
