Hi

I would like to get a second opinion on my first build. Ready to buy all the parts.

I need it for gaming and light music editing/recording (Logic Pro, Pro Tools).

Location is Europe. My budget is about 1000€.

Prices include delivery!

CPU - Ryzen 7 2700x 175€

MB - MSI B450M MORTAR MAX 101€

GPU - Asus TUF Gaming GeForce GTX 1660 super oc 6Gb 252€

Memory - G. skill Flare X 3200MHz 16Gb (Kit of 2) 66€

PSU - EVGA PSU EVGA SuperNOVA 550 G3 550W, 80 PLUS Gold, Full modular 84€

OS - WIN 10 HOME 64B/ENG 106€

I’m gonna get a cheap and ugly case. Not spending more than 50€ on it.

So i have about 150-190€ left for monitor and keyboard.

I don’t care about RGB or top tier graphics. I’m currently playing on 5 years old laptop. So i would just like to have stuff running faster than 15 fps, lol. And that i wouldn’t need to worry about upgrading any parts in next couple of years.
I already have a 250Gb M.2 SSD. Planning to buy an additional drive in future.

Is the stock cooler enough for this particular CPU? I’m not going to overclock it.

Feel free to let me know if i should change any parts or if this pc is gonna work at all. I have never built a pc.

it mostly looks good. if the r5 3600 isn't much more expensive, I'd go with that.

the psu is a big red flag, you should change that. go for a corsair tx550m or rm550x.

you can use windows without activating it, or buy a cheap key on resale websites.

you can get a cheap case, but you need to take into account airflow. a good case, even cheap, has a mesh front so it can suck air in directly. you'll need some case fans as well. there is a good cheap 5-pack from arctic.

if you give me a budget and country, i can try to adjust your build.

The 2xxx series gets very little from a MAX motherboard.  All that gives you is out of the box 3xxx compatibility, but the second you bios flash with the 2xxx chip every b450 has 3xxx compatibility anyway.  The thing only makes sense if you’re buying a 3xxx chip.  I personally like slower 8/16 over faster 6/12 for futureproofing.  The above posters are right about the 3600 having better single thread performance though.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Life is like a bowl of chocolates: there are all these little crinkly paper cups everywhere.

Thank you!

Do i need to update bios on the motherboard before i can use r5 3600?

I’ll probably get tx550m.

I’ll think about getting a windows key online. And fans!

Country is estonia and budget is about 1000€.

The MSI B450M Mortar MAX will work out of the box with the R5 3600 so no need to do a bios update. You should look at the R5 3600X as well as you can get a free game with that cpu, so if the price difference isn't that much then it is worth getting.

The free game is either Borderlands 3 or The Outer Worlds:
