i had just upgraded from a i5 3470 and on the gaming side things have improved but windows overall seems slower then it did on my i5 i have a 1060 3g and 16gb of ram. minecraft also works okay till the computer warms up then it will get lag spikes when it renders something new in not sure what is happening...

rendering is gpu and not cpu in many cases, the 3gb of vram might not be enough for the video settings your running minecraft on

How about you tell us more about your new system, like the CPU, the SSD/HDD, the PSU , etc?

Also, did you do a clean Windows install or did you keep the old installation?

yeah jumballi is right. The 1060 3gb is pretty garbage and the 3gb of vram really bottlenecks its performance.

I don't want to be quoted as right just yet, vanilla minecraft really runs on anything with a gpu, as it's more of a cpu intensive game. also the cpu could be hit hard if your running mods, so you were more correct to dig for more info.

ye I did skim what you said but it is true minecraft is a cpu game at vanilla, like csgo.

 

Honestly the slower windows performance sounds weird. Maybe he didn't change it but just plugged his drive into the new board

i have a adata sp580 120gb and a kingston a400 120gb in raid and then i keep my games ''not minecraft'' on my 1tb 

its a brand new evga 600w br 80+ powersupply too and the cpu is new aswell the ram is new and the installation is new aswell

secondly, out of those 120gb, how much is used?

RAID on SATA SSD-s is not a good idea, it usually means TRIM doesn't work, and without "garbage collection" SSD-s tend to slow down a lot.

 

How's the health of the drives, have you checked it (Hard Disk Sentinel, CrystalDiskInfo, etc)?
