Hi Everyone,

Need some help and advice .. I am doing research for my new build and want to get an M.2 drive but with all the different types out there i am getting confused .. So hoping someone can point me in the right direction ..

I need 2 of them in total .. One for the OS and programs , and the other will be where games will be installed .. Thinking 1tb for both ..

currently looking at SAMSUNG 970 EVO M.2 2280 1TB PCIe Gen3. X4 , but in most of Linus's videos he always uses the same corsair one with the big heat sink ..

So any advice or pointers would be a big help .. and thanks for everyone who reads , hope your weekend goes well ..

Samsung 970 Evo is just overpriced. Corsair one with big heatisk are PCIe 4 i'd assume and it doesn't worth the money either. If you're in US then get two 1TB MDD BPX Pro or Inland Premium, or 2TB Mushkin Pilot as it's really irrelevant if you're working on one big drive or two smaller ones, just partition it to two partitiions, ~100GB for OS and everything else for well, everything else.

Depends on the rest of the system. Currently PCIe 4 is useless if you dont get Ryzen 5/7/9/TR 3rd gen and X570 or TRX40, so the MP600 (the Corsair SSD with big heatsink) will be limited in speed. They are overkill anyways

Thanks everyone for the input so far ..

My new computer will be a Ryzen either 7 or 9 depending on the price when i order .. as for MB plan on a Asus ROG Strix x570-E ...

I like and want to keep the OS and the games separate , as i need this new build to be the best of both worlds .. A good work station to drive my 4 screens with a lot of windows open doing things .. and a great gaming pc to play everything ..

Please keep the advice coming .. thanks ..

Buy the biggest NVME SSD you can. 2TB if you can spare it. Motherboards these days seem to support only 2 M.2 slots, some motherboards have 3. Unless you plan on buying SATA drives, its best if you buy big NVME SSDs so you don't have to upgrade in the future. Personally I have a 500GB, 1TB, and 2TB NVME SSD and im running low on space. Now I have to toss out perfectly good drives if I want to expand. I can't run them all.

Thanks ToastyBear,

the MB i picked out has 2 x M.2 slots .. so that is why i was going to do 1 for the OS and 1 for games .. as for data , I am not worried about that as i have a media server ..

So currently Juular says the following brands over Samsung .. MDD BPX Pro or Inland Premium, or Mushkin Pilot ..

Any other thoughts ?
