Hi guy’s this is my first post and I could use a little help, so I just bought 16gb of trident z rgb 3200 to pair with a kit I already had installed, now I can’t get it to boot properly at 3200 with the xmp settings the kits are the exact same just bought couple months apart.

My parts

asus b450f mobo

ryzen 2600

32gb tridentz rgb memory 3200 all have the same timings

things I’ve already done

Pulled battery and cleared cmos

re installed ram

ran memtest86 and no problems

Try to manually set them to xmp, by using ryzen master. Set the same timings and mhz in ryzen master than in bios and leave everything in auto

I Use my knowledge as business owner and self taught technician aswell as an AI to help people. AI might be controversial but it actually works pretty well 90% of the time.

Can you boot into windows with the new kit only?

If you can boot into windows with each kit one at a time and run this program and take a screenshot

http://www.softnology.biz/files/thphn160.zip

Hit the read button and select Read SPD doesn't matter which one you select. Wanting to check to see if the kit is using a different chip brand ect.

ryzen 5 2600 doesn't play nice with ram speeds over 2933. you'll have to either manually increase dram voltage to 1.4V or something and see if it works or dial back the frequency to 2933

Not sure where you get your info but gen 2 chips and get up to 3400Mhz no issue on 4 dimm kits. 3600Mhz can be a be a pain at times but can be done.

3200Mhz is will work no issue, the problem here most likely is the the memory kits are using different die manufactures therefor causing a latency issue during training.

i get my info from my own experience and from countless people on this forum that had the same problem as me and solved it in the way i described.

xmp is an intel friendly profile. sure, you can activate it on ryzen, but might have to tweak a few things to make it stable. I suggested the 2 easiest options. either increase voltage or reduce frequency.

Well memory is one of the hardest aspects to understand when OCing and dealing with bios settings. Yes XMP is a intel profile but is also baked into AMD motherboard because the motherboard manufactures make intel boards as well and have access to these profiles. I don't disagree that sometimes you may have to tweak some settings but without knowing root cause of the instability just pushing move voltage or decreasing frequency is not the right way to deal with the issue.

As i stated in my prior post most likely issue im just assuming while waiting on more information from the OP the kit has changed die manufactures which in my extensive experience and knowledge about ram  regardless of the same memory timings will result in a difference in memory latency that will cause the system instability. This can be corrected by changing RAS to CAS delay without tweaking the voltage or frequency and it will correct the inbalance in the system and allow both kits to operate at a fixed latency usually the kit with the highest latency.

Neat, please post more knowledge like this, there is serious lack of oldschool discussion about memory tweaking for both OC and compatibility these days, especially around places like this.

I agree anymore people think just just up the volts until it works. Without knowing where the problem lies it like putting a bandaide on things, yes there is a place for more volts but if a kit is rated for said speed and a CPU IMC is rated for said speed at a certain voltage thats what you should be running for that speed if it doesn't work say due to poor motherboard trace shielding or even a weaker IMC this can be compensated by tweaking the Termination Block Resistance. This wouldn't affect your memory timings or require a increase in voltage. Once a kit is running stable or tweaked just past XMP then OC'ing becomes easier even on setups with 4 dimms you have headroom for voltage increase timing adjustments ect.

As I saw alot memory is one of the hardest components to understand true OC'ing if you don't know the "rules" for timings and what each timing parameter does and how it affect the memory.

My buddy has a 3600Mhz kit that is Samsung B die 16-16-16-20-36 @ 1.35v Gskill Kit 4x8GB kit I was able to get that memory up to 4400Mhz 18-20-20-22-42 @ 1.425v on a Ryzen 3600 Set SOC voltage to 1.2v I made timing changes to alot of the sub timings loosing them. But by the time we were done we saw almost a 20% increase in performance. We had to mess with the infinity fabric run it outside of the 1:1 his max FCLK was around 1850Mhz.

May sound slightly OT and kind of too broad a question to easily answer, but where would one find better resources for understanding ram OC? Ryzen DRAM Calculator might be cool, but because of it there isn't anything that easily comes up if one searches for better understanding with how to OC Ram.  I find one or two old guides but nothing that comprehensive, or likewise find stuff that is way more technical then need be (starts going into deep computer-science, stuff you can't really play with in any bios, rather then just understanding basic of Ram OC)

could ask more specific stuff but would rather make another topic or dm if you were interested, as i dont wanna drag this thread OT

Okay so lets start with installing the latest chipset drives. Use the original kit to get into windows.

Then flash the BIOS to the latest version.

Under Tools in the BIOS use ASUS Ez Flash 3 utility

Sent you a DM.

Okay so lets start with installing the latest chipset drives. Use the original kit to get into windows.

Then flash the BIOS to the latest version.

Under Tools in the BIOS use ASUS Ez Flash 3 utility

No problem, just let me know, I will be on and off over the weekend, once you completed the steps I have you do a BIOS reset for good measure sometimes timings like to get stuck in limbo. After that is done reinstall all 4 stick and set XMP and see what you get and let me know.

ok so i updated the chipset driver and the did the bios, no luck i was able to hit 2933 last night now i can only hit 2800, so my situation has gotten worse.

and both kits still hit 3200 when i run them in duel channel
