DisplayPort 2.0 Compatibility

I was going to buy an ASUS PG27UQX, if and when that comes out, and I believe it uses chroma subsampling to achieve 4k@144hz. When displayport 2.0 comes out, will it be compatible with that monitor's display port, enabling it to run at full 10 bit color, 4k 144hz, and HDR? Or will asus have to manufacture a new monitor with a "displayport 2.0 port?" Basically my question is if displayport 2.0 will work with any existing displayport port.

To my knowledge there will be backwards compatibility from Displayport 2.0 to 1.4 meaning they will both maintain the same connector. Displayport 2.0 will also support up to 16k at 60Hz so yes it will support 4k 144Hz HDR 10 bit color without issue (you'll need some serious horse power to run it). Keep in mind that with USB 4 coming out next year we should start seeing a lot more monitors available using the USB-C connector. With up to 40 Gbps throughput and up to 100w power delivery both data transfer and power will be handled through USB 4. No one can tell you what ASUS will chose to incorporate in a monitor that hasn't been released yet. Are you planning on building a new system next year for this monitor?

It will be compatible with existing devices, but it won't upgrade the capabilities of any current devices.

Much thank. I was getting worried about compatibility. Also I have a 2080ti and 9900k so that might be enough. I will have to see.

Probably not going to make a new pc for this monitor. Maybe in the distant future but my pc should last me a good while.

Sadly it won't be enough. You're PC is perfectly suited to run new titles at 4k but not at 144 FPS.

Rip. Well I mean I can turn down some settings to get 144hz, but it has good enough HDR and colors that the main selling point of this monitor is also for visuals, not just framerate. Maybe in the future I might upgrade my pc with a 4k 144hz capable card. And I mean, for now, I will probably run it at 98hz hdr 10 bit color, which is like the maximum framerate this card can do in AAA games.
