Hi, so I just found out that my new system wouldn’t post due to the MO bios not supporting my cpu with the stock version, although versions that do support it have come out since. So, I’m not sure how to update/flash the bios, help appreciated!

Z390 should always support 9th gen chips, since the chipset came out in the time of the CPU gen.

This board only supports BIOS updates from the UEFI, which you can only access when you have a compatible CPU installed, which - again - the board should just support the chip.

Are you sure the BIOS not being an adequate version is the problem with your build?

Didn't Z390 come out with 8th Gen? Intels entire line up is so confusing these days.

Anyway OP is probably correct...

I’m not completely sure what the issue is, but when I power it on everything turns on as normal, but the vga and boot lights both turn on and it won’t post, even when trying just cpu and one stick of ram. When I posted about it originally someone recommended the bios, so I’m not quite sure.

Z370 was the high-end chipset for 8th gen, Z390 came out once 9th gen hit the market. It's kind of an X370 vs X470 situation I suppose.

It should work out of the box, regardless of BIOS. The QVL is a good resource, but it's just a list of components they tried out at a certain BIOS version. So if they tested out the 9700K a week after launched the board, it's entirely possible they already had a newer BIOS flashed on it.

But it indeed seems like a weird design choice by Asus..

If you have exhausted all other options (checked all power connections, including your GPU connections, CPU power, 24 pin, etc.) and ensured they are all properly plugged in on the other end too, it might just be the BIOS too.

Your options to update will likely be:

- Go to a store and have them update the bios (will cost between zero USD and thirty USD)

- Get a loaner 8th gen CPU and update the BIOS yourself
