New PC Build - Help

Go to solution Solved by WoodenMarker,

i tend to buy all my pc parts form novtech since they have amaxing customer support but i am not limited to them and would be open to other uk vendors.

How's this look? http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/2SVJP

okay so here is the system i  have planned out.

FX-8 8320 AMD (3.5ghz) - whihc i plan to overlcock to somewhere near 4ghz hense the water cooling below

H80i or H90 (both same price)

HDD (500gb Extra storage)

SSD (cheap and cheerful)

RAM (1600MHz G.skill 8gb kit)

CD-ROM(some random sata dvd burner)

WIFI-Card (since mobo i bought dosent have that)

i have already bought

Corsair 200r (Case)

Gigabyte 970A-DS3P (mobo)

havent chosen a PSU yet since i dont know about my power requirements as i have not chosen a GPU

i have a budget of 300£ for gpu and cpu this week.

since the cpu is 115£ that leaves approx 185£ for a GPU

i have considerted getting one of these

XFX Radeon R9 270X DD Black Edition OC 2GB GDDR5

when it comes to graphics cards in a little lacking in knowledge
i am leaning towards the Asus GTX 660 as of right now. unless anyone has something good to say about the Zotac.

any recomendations, advice would be greatly appreciated. id like to keep the cost down as much as possible but i do want the Pc to be able to play games @ 1902x1080 on at least high-ultra settings. the likes of skyrim, D3, Rust, LoL, Farcry,Fallout Etc

to sum up i need advice on the gpu and water cooling options mostly. im buying the gpu and cpu sometimes next week. the budget for those is 300£

thanks for any help in advance :D

Zotac is just as good as any other brand, it's not less powerful or anything.

It uses a reference design, so it's nothing special, but if we are talking about performance the GTX 760 is the best card on your list.

If you can manage to save a little bit for a non reference design, you would have a card that's cooler (will allow you to get better overclocks) and also quieter, but stick to the 760.

ASUS GeForce GTX 660 DirectCU II OC 2GB GDDR5

The Zotac GTX 760 uses a reference design cooler. Could you get something like an Asus DCUII, MSI TF, or Gigabyte Windforce GTX 760? If you can wait a while, see if Nvidia releases Maxwell.

ASUS GeForce GTX 660 DirectCU II OC 2GB GDDR5 is the one i am considering above all the others and its the cheapest of the gpu's i was considering.

unfortunantly i dont have the option of waiting for maxwell as i am buying the compnents proberly wednesday-thursday this week and i really need a gaming computer asap as this laptop just dont cut it xD

many ppl recomended a 760 but the only one i could find in my price point was the zotac.

the ASUS GeForce GTX 760 DirectCU II OC 2GB GDDR5 is 207£ my budget right now is 185£ tho i could proberly squeese the extra ad get this card if thats what u would recomend over the othes.

does anyone have a recomendation for psu ill go for the asus gts 760.

so with that in mind i already know i need

Mobo (24-pin and 4-pin)

GPU (6-pin x2)

Sata (3 connectors)

Peripheral ( 4 connectors)

so i had a look around and foudn this PSU

Corsair Builder Series Modular CX600M - 600 Watt 80 PLUS® Bronze Power Supply

now im not very good when it comes to working out power output and how much i will need.

neither am i good with these terms such as (EPS,ATX) etc

so the question is does this cpu meet my requirements and is it  good one to go for. it definantly fits my budget though

The cx500m is already plenty for a system with a 760.

The cpu is fine.

What's the system being used for? Total budget?

system is being used for gaming (skyrim, D3, Farcry 3, Fallout 3, MMO's, Assasin Creed and loads of other games i enjoy l.ike minecraft Etc and/or streaming and running my personel game servers for close friends only. then general purpose use. movies, youtube. word prcoessing, some minor graphic product design. but mostly the system is for gaming thats what id use it for most often.

i set aside £325 for cpu and gpu the 760 being £208 and cpu being £116 which i will be purchasing this week sometime.

i already have a gigabyte 970A-DS3P mobo and corsair 200r costing 100£ in total

i then plan on spending around 360£ which will cover H80i, HDD, SSD, PSU,Wifi Card, Optical drive and Ram

i may add some extra cooling , upgrade to 140mm fans, buy new keyboard and mousse etc but those arnt needed initially.

Total budget id say approx 800£

the reason for a 600w is to just have some extra give incase i decide to add a bunhc of usb devices, tv tuner cards, more hdd and sdds and any extra's i decide to add in later. the 600w is also only 5£ more so i se eno reaosn not to get it.

The cx500m would be plenty for all those devices which take relatively very little power.

Is it 800£ or 700£ since you bought the case and motherboard?

yes that would be correct around 700£ left for the budget u seem dead certain a 500w would be enough, but with a 5£ diffrence it dosent matter much anyway xD

i already have a 500w psu form an old machine but it is 5 years old and i dont feel like using it its also not 80+ certified.

what i will ask is the CX500W have allt he cables i need since the gpu needs 2x 6 pin mobo needs 24pin and 4 pin need sata x3 and periperal 4x minimum. i get quiet coinfused when it comes to psu since half the time they have connectors EPS and such which i have no idea what that is xD well thats the cable requirements according to novatech site.

Yes, it has all the cables needed. They are generally labeled as pci-e connectors in the spec.

Are you limited to novatech or are you open to other UK shops?
