I have an LG 27UK600-W monitor, it has 2 hdmi ports, i have my laptop connected to one port and my ps4 to the other. every time i want to switch between them i have to use the physical nob on the monitor itself to go the the menu and change the hdmi input. Here is the problem, the nob feels and looks pretty finicky I'm afraid it will break or sth through extended use (which is a couple of times for me a day). is there a way to change the hdmi inputs through software from my laptop?

No, there isn't, although probably the cheapest option is to buy a HDMI switch. It's basically a tiny box, with X amount of HDMI inputs, and you press a button that switch between the inputs, and one of the HDMI ports on the switch is the output to your monitor, so you will need 3 HDMI cables to pull this off.
