Ohh I solved the problem as mentioned, I am just wondering why does the standard driver is not the one to take anymore and for what kind of use can we use it now ?

DCH is a new driver standard Microsoft wants hardware manufacturers to use. It basically allows only the core components to be updated. This is to avoid something like an OEM or system builder that adds custom stuff on top of the driver suite from being blown away.

Hello guys I am building a PC for a client and I was wondering about something.

These are the main components of the PC

i5-9400F

ASUS Prime B360M-A

8Gb DDR4 2666 RAM

GTX 1660 Super ASUS Dual

Crucial P1 1Tb

I installed the latest NVIDIA driver for the 1660S (441.41) and I had a error message about the fact that it's not compatible. It says to try the DCH version of the driver and now it work.

My question is the following: Why does the Windows driver type requirement is the DCH one and not the standard one like it used to be ?

My initial guess throughout all of this is if you have DCH drivers already installed, then if the driver installer detects can this, it can enforce the user to update using the DCH drivers instead of the standard ones. If you didn't install anything, the drivers came through Windows Update.

However functionally, there's no real difference between the DCH drivers and Standard ones. So don't worry about it.

So in what case are we using Standard driver now ?

It's there if you need it. Much like why UEFI still has a compatibility boot mode even though if you build with recent hardware, you don't need it.
