you define it as a workstation, does it mean that gaming is not a priority, and what do you do work wise on this machine.

 

Since this is really important information... your 6700k is still a decent gaming rig, and is fine for more single threaded performance hungry elements.. but if you work with multithreaded areas then the Ryzen is a possibility especially the new editions.

 

the GPU seems to be the slow part. the 970 gtx equals a 1060 3gb, it is not bad, a 5700XT would give you a nice jump in performance, 60-70% gaming performance.. a 2070 even a 1660super would be a nice upgrade, with some cuda cores to support rendering, if that is your game..

 

but in short, the "usage case" is the most important part, to actually give you some feedback
