Hey everyone!
Basically I'm looking to upgrade from my old I5-4670k since it's starting to show it's age (even in single player games) But I would like focus to be only on 2D graphic (Photoshop, Corel Painter, Clip Studio Paint..) I do bit of 3D in blender as well, but that's not as important. The issue is that it's hard to find a benchmark for this kind of a thing. Even in Photoshop, the action i do the most is basically use big textury brushes to do big strokes (which believe it or not, the most modern cpus struggle with). So far what I got from bit dated sources was that I9 was preferable for Photoshop, but that's from posts when there was much less Ryzens out there.
My budget would be probably $430USD at max.
Thanks in advance!

Should be more than 2x the performance of your CPU.

SSD is in case you're still using mechanical drives.

You can sell the old MB+CPU+RAM and put the difference into a better video card, or a IPS monitor

later edit: If your case is tiny and can only do mATX motherboards, you can replace above option with:

Thanks mariushm!
I'm sorry for not expressing myself clearly enough, while i appreciate the consideration of budget and going even lower than that (I'm happy to save some money), the budget i mentioned (430$) is just for the cpu, besides that I will need to grab a new psu, motherboard and DDR4 ram, already got a SSD, but those components were not meant to be included in the 430$

But maybe you're saying 430$ cpu is overkill for that type of work?

It really depends on the rest of your system and what you have.

Could you say what you're planning to reuse?  Will you reuse the video card for example (that's a big part of a budget)

What's your overall budget and what are you currently thinking about (in broad terms)?

Ryzen 3600 already gives you a very good performance boost. I could suggest something better, but for example, maybe you have some old 22-24" monitor and your efficiency and quality of life would improve much more with a 27"-32" 1440p or 4K IPS monitor and a cheaper CPU instead of a very powerful CPU.

I think my overall budget would be around 730$
My GPU : 1060 (I'm fine with that for now)
CPU 4760k (planning to ditch)
22gb ram DDR3 (planning to ditch)
my case is big enough to fit bigger format motherboards, that one was actually quite a recent upgrade
+ some bad cheap motherboard and psu (planning to ditch)
I'm using Huion Kamvas 13 as my drawing graphic tablet/main monitor and AOC 22" IPS 1080p as side monitor, i'm kinda fine with those and better graphic tablets get very expensive very fast (700$ +)
Other than that I have 500GB SSD and bunch of 1 or 2 TB HDDs.
One thing i forgot to mention is i tend to work with streaming, either google hangouts or twitch, which is more work load on cpu (i stream art, not games).

Ok, here's what I would do in a 730$ budget:

Solid motherboard which also has good wireless, and you'll be able to upgrade in the future to even better processors if you'll want to. Went up a bit on the CPU department, so you have 8 cores and 16 threads.

You could go a bit higher on the RAM with 3600 Mhz instead of 3200 Mhz but it won't increase performance in Photoshop by any significant amount.

The cooler is a matter of taste. If you prefer air cooling, there's be quiet! Dark Rock 4 for $75 : https://pcpartpicker.com/product/FRYLrH/be-quiet-dark-rock-4-cpu-cooler-bk021

The PSU is semi-modular and 550w but more than enough - a 1060 video card uses less than 200w and the rest of the system doesn't use more than $150, so overall you're not gonna get close to 400w.

But, if you want fully modular you have Corsair RMx 550w for 80$ (after $20 mail-in rebate): https://pcpartpicker.com/product/bqVD4D/corsair-rmx-2018-550w-80-gold-certified-fully-modular-atx-power-supply-cp-9020177-na
