Low gpu usage

My gpu usage in destiny 2 is stuck at 50% even though my cpu usage is at 50-60% and none of the cores get close to 100% usage. In every other game I’ve tested I get full gpu utilization. No matter what I do nothing changes please help.

How much FPS do you get, which GPU/CPU do you have and what are the resolution and detail settings?

I get around 80-100 FPS depending on what I’m doing. I have a Ryzen 5 2600 and a 2060 super. I have mostly medium settings at 1080p

You should be getting higher fps with that combination. Have you checked if framerate cap is enabled?

 

Check "C:\Users\<name>\AppData\Roaming\Bungie\DestinyPC\Prefs\cvars.xml" (open in Notepad or Notepad++). There's a "framerate_cap" value in there.

It says 144 but im not even getting up to that

Increasing the graphics settings should increase the visual fidelity without significantly lowering the framerate in your case since you're introducing an artifical bottleneck by running the 2060 on 1080p with lower details than it's meant to be. The 2060 is an entry 1440p card meaning it's not for running 1080p details lower than high if you don't have a CPU that can prepare enough frames to have it output more.

Also, are you running the latest Bios for your motherboard and the latest chipset drivers from AMD?

The cpu usage is only at 50-60 percent does this still mean it could possibly not be preparing enough frames?

Right, that can be. The 50-60% is the average of all the cores. 

 

Look at the older AMD CPU-s like the FX series, there were cases it got used 20% but the, then midrange cards like an R9 380, weren't being properly used.
