FPS and PC issue

xReqt

Hi

Specs: 1050ti i5-7400 16gb ddr4. Issue: Every game having bad fps with extreme fps drops. For example CSGO, I can run the game 180-200 fps then during playing it goes to 42 and sometimes under and it happens none stop. Things I've tried: Fresh install, Updating GPU driver, Launch options, Power saving to high performance, Nvidia control panel settings to high performance. Any help would be awesome I've struggled now for almost a week and ive found no fixes.

I am in dire need of help as this is supposed to be a Christmas gift and ive got a month to get it working.

FPS drops could mean hight temp causing stuttering, do you have a good airflow ? Did you monitored the temp during gaming session ?

Those are good temps indeed that shouldn't cause problems :/ so back to some other ideas. Do you run the game from an SSD or HDD ?

what motherboard do you have?

Anything i've written between the * and * is not meant to be taken seriously.

keep in mind that helping with problems is hard if you aren't specific and detailed.

i'm also not a professional, (yet) so make sure to personally verify important information as i could be wrong.

The problem could come from this then, did you monitor the ram (it should not be the cause since you have 16Gb :)). So most probably the HDD.

If the RPM is low and not a lot of cache, the HDD will have some problem to keep up leading to stuttering, it will also overheat causing more stuttering.

For example, my low games are on an HDD, when I download or move files around I have horrendous stutter. This never happen on my games that are on the SSD.

@Plouffe Okay I'll get a new HDD but I haven't got a CD slot so how would I go around getting windows back on? I have a external HDD with windows setup on would that work?  Also any other fixes just incase?

If you can get a SSD it's a better option too.

You can set a USB to install W7/8.1/10, it's well explained on Windows website so don't worry about that.

Huge server lag I would guess otherwise.

@Plouffe The issue is I've tested it in 3 games. Game 1 : Rainbow six seige, the issue again is FPS its normal (around 100-110) then through out the whole play time it none stop goes to 45 then to 50 then to 100 then 60 just random. Game 2: Rust , Runs okay around 60-70 fps max (Game is un-optimized so can't expect much) Game 3: CSGO, Similar to rainbow it gets around 170-200 then none stops goes low to under 100 then to 170 and repeat.

If you had to trouble fix from this information what would you assume?

Definitely the HDD since you have enough rams and no heating issues. Although, did you monitor the GPU and CPU load ? If the GPU is at max (above 95%) it's normal, if the CPU is also at max too, that could cause the stuttering.

Yeah so it's the HDD, 100% means high temps (because it's turning at full speed to keep up) + slow everything.

Yeah the conclusion is that it's definitely the HDD causing the stuttering. You can get a 7200RPM instead, but a SSD will be better in every way (no noise, less heat, faster).

@Plouffe Sounds good. I will see If I have a spare HDD if I get a 5200 should that be okay until I can afford to replace it with a 1TB 7200 and 500GB SSD

@Plouffe I had 2 500gb HDD's lying around so I put them in there 1 has software and 1 has PC games installed on them. It seems to have worked! Seeing 160-200 in csgo lowest is 160 unless in smokes in which it goes to 100. So thank you as I'd never have thought of it.
