I'm currently in the process of upgrading my PC. I have no idea what CPU to buy. I have my eyes on the i7 9700k but I'm not sure if this is the right one. I primerly game on my PC, but also do some light Photoshop work. I need a CPU that can keep up with AAA gaming for a couple of  years. Is the i7 the right choice or should I go with the i5 and save a bit of cash? Or should I hold my breath for zen 3?

See if you do Photoshop professionally, like a lot of stuff and it gets annoying when it slows down hundred times a day then go for Intel and OC it. But since 6-cores of i5 is not a good choice for modern gaming PC you would want at least i7 but it's kinda short on cores too to be considered future-proof for gaming. So my usual recommendation by default is Ryzen 5 3600 and if you work with Adobe Photoshop\Lightroom professionally or work in CAD\3D modeling software then Core i9 9900k or if you're doing video editing or rendering then Ryzen 9 3900\3950X.
