LG 32GK850G-B? Experiences? Notes? Looking for VA

cluelessgenius

so im thinking about replacing my LG 34UC88-B because realistically i do most my gaming at night or evening and the IPS is starting to bother me in darker scenes.

so while im at it i though a higher refresh rate panel and g-sync would also be nice.

right now im looking at the 32GK850G-B.

size wise they are pretty comparable and its VA panel goes to 165 hz on g-sync.

anyone with experiences on this model?

i was also wondering about that Sphere Lighting in the back. it seems to be a digital rgb strip but then they only show off diferent colors as a whole and then a single rainbow mode. i would have expected with a digital strip theyd implement some sort of ambilight style effect. can anyone confirm or deny that?

or do you maybe have strong feelings about me looking at different models? let me know please.

budget isnt fix but alway try getting a good deal on used hardware so 2000 bucks even used is not gonna come down much.

thanks guys

I'm a proud owner of an LG 32GK650F recommended by Hardware Unboxed. 1440p 144Hz Freesync VA. I can answer questions if you have any.

Which ever monitor you choose, I'd recommend using a calibration device on it to get the most out of it.

thanks but since that model doesnt seem to have that sphere light thing i guess you cant answer that. is it the same panel as the 850G? i am wondering about frame skipping since it has been brought to my attention as a thing that you can have.

I don't know the panel model so I don't know how they relate. Might be the same, I don't think LG has that many 32" 1440p 144Hz VA panels ...

I solved my bias illumination with a cheap USB led strip from eBay. Went with a single color, cool white, probably the best solution for bias lighting.

Its arguably the best VA panel monitor for gaming, with good uniformity for dark scenes, that has been reviewed.

https://www.rtings.com/monitor/reviews/lg/32gk850g-b

Its the only monitor i'd recommend for both gaming and content consumption, and the only monitor i would ever consider for myself, though i do prefer far larger displays.

That said, i havnt experienced it myself in person.

The 32GK650F seems to be a different panel as it tests significantly different to the 850.

That would be too bright for my taste.

Which mosue pad is it? I like how it looks. And I like the keyboard, the setup overall, even the Marcus chair. Only the mouse seems somewhat not belonging there.

https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B01FFFSORA/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

i like it alot. very soft and flexible and build quality is nice.

keyboard is the logitech g513 i went with that one and the mx master mouse because they are somewhat professional/neutral looking and not too gamery. also really love the master. even for gaming i cant complain

the marcus is so far my best chair. i had a bunch of variations before even some very expenive ergonomic ones and sooner or later they or something gives. the markus is very comfortable and for the price you cant beat it. altough the only thing i would maybe change is wider armrests. as they are a bit narrow and hard. but other than that pretty good.

well that strip around the desk is digital meaning i can adress every led seperatly. i have some fancy ideas on doing ambilight with it or maybe have it be a representation of ingame health / shield / mana bars. but i havent gotten around to programming that yet. and the picture doesnt really do it justice its not as bright in reality

My setup is more akin to a home theater. My eyes are roughly 4-5' from the screen , so im not sitting up close like a monitor on a desk.

As for TV's use as a monitor. Prior to smart TV's, u didnt have much issue with input latency, so i dont have that problem, in addition while it is only 60hz, the nature of Plasma means i get far better clarity vs LCD. And great contrast and blacks, uniformity and the like.

In almost all ways its better than a LCD. Nowadays ofc u can have features like 144hz and VRR, along with 1440p and 4k resolutions, this ofc i dont have but imo i would rather have a 1080p 60hz screen, use 4k DSR so i dont have to deal with 1080p aliasing, use fast sync 120FPS in cases were it works, gain the advantage of far better blacks and image quality ..than have to deal with the whole array of issues the LCD panels have, be it pixel response, viewing angles, black levels, uniformity, etc.

That being said ..this would all hold true if my Plasma was 'new' .. its not ..its old ..its dyeing , and i really need a replacement.

Alas i cant find anything worth while, monitors tend to have crap uniformity and the only panel type with any concept of 'black' is VA, which has issues with pixel response.

In the TV scene the only tech that can match and beat Plasma is OLED, but that suffers from Image retention and burn in worse than Plasma, while its most certainly something i could potential work around ..maybe ...not for £1500 at 55" . Sub £1000 at 40"- 42" maybe ..but not 55" and £1500.

Anyway ..getting of topic. :P

The LG 32GK850G-B seems like a great choice.

@SolarNova yeah im also a little bummned by how theres no oled option whatsoever smaller than 55".  not even custom displays. like i would love some good oled for the pi or a smaller tv in my bedroom.
